Information Systems Engineer



Responsible for the implementation and operational support of all aspects of client‘s Virtualization Infrastructure including desktops,

thin clients, application virtualization, client image and storage

• Interacts with both technical and non-technical personnel, monitors and enforce SLA’s and follow problems to resolution

• Contributes to development of Varian IT by participating in international projects

• Build, install, configure and maintain VMware products including Horizon View, App Volumes and Desktop Virtualization

• Provide advanced troubleshooting and problem resolution of the client Virtualization Infrastructure

• Research root cause of problems and escalate to engineering and vendor support as necessary

• Develop, automate and implement operations best practices

• Other client virtualization related server application administration

• Maintaining relationships with third party Helpdesk provider

• Plan and execute regular VMware maintenance upgrades

• Supports major Virtualization Infrastructure expansion projects

• Proactive Vendor Management

• Guides users in formulating requirements, advises alternative approaches, and conducts feasibility studies

• Document new help desk procedures as well as maintain documentation on troubleshooting and technology, contribute to the knowledge base as required and ensure smooth hand over to third party Helpdesk provider

• Analyzes virtualization system requirements and contributes to design and implementation activities

• Provides virtualization technical expertise for the integration of requirements, design, and technology

• Collaborate closely with the global virtualization team

• Support users primarily in EMEA/APAC, secondarily International

• Occasional travel required

• Manage Service-Now incident and request workflows by taking ownership, prioritizing incoming work, and delivering services under Service Level Agreement timelines

• Support client side interface to Enterprise applications by configuring software or diagnosing issues and collaborating with other IT support organizations for issue resolution

• Maintain password, data, and system security for the client virtualization services environment according to IT processes and standards

• If necessary may be required to assist and support the client services team in other areas


Apprenticeship in information technology (Vocational education) or equivalent

• Minimum 5 years’ experience as System Administrator or in Systems Engineering

• VMware Virtualization technology certification desirable

• Sound knowledge of and professional technical experience with Intel based servers and PCs/laptops. Windows server 2008/2012, Windows Client OS, MS Office Suite, Citrix, VMware, storage in general, networking

• Sound understanding of customers and their requirements

• Must be mature and tactful

• Must be highly motivated and have a positive attitude

• Must be a team player

• Fluency in German & English, both written and spoken

• Excellent listening and customer service skills as well as communication, interpersonal and organisational skills

• Willing to travel internationally
