In support of our vision, we seek a dynamic individual for the role of Head of Global Procurement. This crucial position will oversee both direct and indirect procurement, shaping the overarching procurement strategy for Bavarian Nordic. As the leader of our global procurement operations, you will collaborate closely with local purchasing teams in Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, and the US, ensuring a seamless supply of essential raw materials, equipment, and services vital to our thriving vaccine business.

This is a newly established role, providing a unique opportunity for you to make a lasting impact. The successful candidate will possess the skills and mindset to elevate our organization's maturity level from low to high in the coming years. We are seeking an individual capable of instigating positive disruption, with an autonomous approach free from micro-management. Reporting to our Executive Vice President of Global Operations, you will lead a small team of 2-3 employees and the position can be based either in Denmark or Switzerland at our manufacturing sites.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Procurement Leadership:

• Develop and execute a global procurement strategy aligned with business goals.
• Lead the procurement team in sourcing, negotiating, and securing contracts for raw materials, equipment, and services.
• Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities and best practices.

Supplier Management:

• Cultivate and maintain relationships with key suppliers to ensure a robust supply chain.
• Evaluate supplier performance, track key performance indicators, and address any issues.
• Collaborate with suppliers to uphold quality, ethical, and sustainability standards.

Risk Management:

• Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, including geopolitical, regulatory, and logistical challenges.
• Develop contingency plans to address unexpected procurement issues.

Compliance and Regulatory Requirements:

• Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and ESG requirements.
• Stay abreast of regulatory changes and align procurement practices accordingly.

Budget Management:

• Develop and manage the procurement budget, optimizing costs while maintaining high-quality standards.
• Monitor and report on procurement-related expenditures, providing regular updates to senior management.

Team Leadership and Development:

• Build, train, and mentor a high-performing procurement team.
• Foster a collaborative and results-driven culture, promoting professional growth and development.

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree.
• 8+ years of experience in procurement or supply chain management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
• Proven experience in pharmaceutical industry procurement is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of global supply chain dynamics and regulatory requirements.
• Exceptional negotiation and communication skills.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Strong analytical and financial acumen.
