Senior Manager Trade Compliance

Varian seeks an experienced Trade Compliance professional to lead the company’s global trade compliance operations in EMEIA. The role reports into the Assistant General Counsel, Head of Global Trade and initially would have one direct report. The successful candidate would be able to work cross-functionally and cross-regionally to ensure alignment across the business and across the globe. You should have strong knowledge of country specific export and import requirements in the region, and have experience dealing with other government agency requirements (such as the European Medicines Agency, equivalents and radiation safety agencies) at the point of importation or exportation. Knowledge of European requirements is mandatory and knowledge of other export/import regimes in the EMEIA region is beneficial. Experience dealing with customs and export issues in India, Russia and Africa also is a plus. You have significant customs operational experience for all aspects of customs/import compliance. Very strong HS classification abilities are required, preferably in the medical device context. Other strengths should include valuation, country of origin, duty savings programs, and dealing with EMEIA import formalities, including broker oversight. Knowledge of AEO certification programs is helpful. You should be familiar with US and EMEIA economic sanctions. An understanding of the US Iran sanction s program would be particularly desirable. Familiarity with regional encryption export and import controls (including France and Russia) would be a strong plus. Knowledge of SAP/GTS is preferred

 

Responsibilities

·      Manages the ongoing preparation, testing and monitoring of compliance with government regulations and regulatory agencies for the organization

·      Directs and performs evaluation of internal operations, controls, communications, risk assessments and maintenance of documentation as related to regulatory compliance and recommends appropriate changes

·      Reviews and evaluates results of internal and external audits and advises organization on appropriate actions to be taken

·     Directs and manages organizational relationships and interactions with regulatory agencies

·      Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function

Minimum Required Skills and Knowledge

·      Extensive and demonstrable experience in trade controls and trade operations

·      Management skills

·      Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively, with good humor across the globe
