The Biozentrum of the University of Basel is one of the leading institutes worldwide for molecular and biomedical basic research and teaching. It is home to more than 30 research groups with scientists from over 40 countries. Research at the Biozentrum focuses on the areas of Cell Growth & Development, Infection Biology, Neurobiology, Structural Biology & Biophysics and Computational & Systems Biology. With its more than 500 employees, the Biozentrum is the largest department at the University of Basel's Faculty of Science.
We are looking to recruit a self-motivated Proteomics IT Specialist to join our Proteomics Core Facility (PCF). The PCF provides state-of-the art proteomic techniques to support life science research at the Biozentrum. It is tightly integrated in an internationally leading scientific surrounding and in multiple interdisciplinary projects. The main focus of the group is the development and application of sensitive mass spectrometric workflows for system-wide and specific protein profiling.
Proteomics IT Specialist
Your position The position's responsibilities will be the support, maintenance and advancement of the IT infrastructure of the facility in collaboration with the local IT specialists. The PCF offers a wide range of workflows focusing on global (LFQ, TMT, SWATH) and, in particular, targeted (SRM/PRM) protein quantification using different commercial and in-house data-analysis pipelines. A major task will be the development of software and computational tools for the generation of targeted MS assays for DIA workflows and the analysis and interpretation of the quantitative mass spectrometric datasets. This includes the implementation of informatics solutions to manage, display and search proteomics datasets, the database-based management of results and the possibility for independent research projects.
Your profile The successful candidate should have a degree in a life science or computational discipline. Prior experience with the analysis of proteomics data and excellent skills in at least one programming or scripting language (such as Perl, Java, R, Python and/or C/C++) are essential. Hands-on experience with LC-MS systems and experience in the statistical analysis of large biological datasets would be advantageous. Besides, the successful candidate should have a good understanding of Linux and Windows operation systems. In addition, the role requires good communication and organization skills, the ability to work well in a team, as you will work closely with research scientists, other bioinformaticians and members of the PCF, as well as advanced knowledge of English.
We offer you The position offers a challenging opportunity to join a growing and rapidly evolving bioanalytical field and to join a team of highly motivated scientists. The position is initially for 2 years, with the possibility of further extension after positive evaluation. Salary and benefits according to University of Basel standards.
