Accounts Payable Accountant (Ref. 2607) - 6-month contract
We are seeking a proactive, detail-oriented Accounts Payable Manager to take full ownership of the accounts payable function in a startup environment. This is a high-impact, standalone role responsible for both the daily execution and strategic development of scalable AP operations. You will handle everything from invoice entry to payment processing while building robust processes, controls, and reporting frameworks to support a growing international business.
Your main tasks
- Process invoices in our AP system, ensuring data is complete, accurate, and policy compliant
- Manually enter invoices when automation is not applicable or fails
- Monitor invoice lifecycle, follow up with approvers and clear holds to enable on-time payment
- Support with the setup of vendor records; resolve issues, provide payment status updates, and validate banking/IBAN details
- Prepare weekly payment runs, compile approved invoices, check accuracy / approvals / due dates and submit for release
- Prepare manual out-of-scope payments and route for DOA approvals
- Maintain an accurate, up-to-date AP subledger and support month-end close activities
- Support internal, statutory, and tax audits with timely documentation and reconciliations
Your profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- AP experience, with exposure to multinational or start-up environments
- Working knowledge of Coupa (or similar procure-to-pay / AP system)
- Good Excel skills for reconciliations and uploads
- Experience with banking portals for payment preparation / release; JPMorgan portal experience is a plus
- Strong grasp of AP fundamentals: invoice flow, PO compliance, approvals, terms, VAT and WHT basics, and payment-run preparation
- Start-up / scale-up mindset; comfortable working in a lean, changing environment
- Organized, accurate, and deadline-driven
- Experience in biopharma / pharma or healthcare is a plus
- Fluent in English, German or any other European language is a plus
