1 – Your main tasks
The Health, Safety & Environment Engineer will be responsible for driving sustainable implementation and oversight of occupational health and safety requirements in our facilities in Monthey.
2 – Job activities
- Support the development and implementation of key occupational health, safety & environment programs and action plans and engineering/process solutions to ensure compliant and sustainable operations
- Provide necessary training, leadership, organization, and control to meet the company's occupational health and safety performance goals
- Assist in integrating HSE management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001) into ongoing operations
- Provide technical expertise and support in the development and review of Risk Assessments to identify potential hazards and equipment/process/people controls to achieve reduced occupational health and safety risk.
- Function as a key technical resource in PSM (Process Safety Management), and Emergency Preparedness – in that, be the lead to oversee regional safety audits and corrective measures
- Directly support site develop/planning, construction and equipment commissioning and operational aspects of facility safety, building code hazard classification and fire protection systems
- Provide technical support and risk assessment guidance for Dangerous Goods classification and packaging requirements business related hazardous substances.
- Oversee programs for periodic inspections, documentation, and response to corrective actions for workplace health and safety requirements
- Assist in conducting incident investigations as necessary, including coaching and support for root cause analysis, and tracking corrective actions to completion.
- Act as an internal resource providing support for occupational health, safety and environment training at the facility/frontline level.
- Build trust and relationships with operational leadership and other HSE practitioners throughout the organization.
- Coordinate occupational exposure monitoring and manage associated programs with a focus on minimizing and preventing exposures to chemical, physical and biological hazards and diseases that could be present in the work area
- Contribute to the development of occupational health and safety (and other related HSE and sustainability) metrics for the Organization.
- The incumbent will also work on any additional projects and duties as needed.
3 – Education, Training & Skills
- A degree or diploma in Process Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical/Chemical Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety or any related field
- 10 years industry experience in health, safety and environment
- Professional certification(s) in occupational health and safety and/or hazardous materials highly desired
- Working knowledge of national, provincial and local regulations related to occupational health and safety, Dangerous Goods Transportation and hazardous materials, as well as related facility safety standards preferred
- Experience in developing and implementing EMEA compliant occupational health and safety programs and monitoring performance
- Experience assessing training needs, creating training materials to fulfill those needs, and then delivering the training
- Experience in building codes/classification systems in alignment to the facility life safety and fire protection systems preferred
- Ability to work independently and in an international multi-disciplinary team environment
- Strong analytical, negotiation and creative problem-solving skills.
- Fluent in French and English (written and spoken), German as a plus
- High degree of time management.
