Team Lead Configuration Management and Monitoring

Your responsibilities:

As the Lead of Configuration Management and Monitoring you are first and foremost responsible for the engineers in your team. You will mentor and coach your engineers to facilitate their individual growth. Your team is part of the Platform Engineering unit, which is at the core of Open Systems’ development department and provides common functionality and frameworks to other engineering teams. You will design architectures, plan projects and lead your team’s coding efforts to increase the scalability and to guarantee seamless operations of the monitoring and configuration management infrastructure of Open Systems' global secure SD-WAN solution.

You will be based at our headquarter in Zurich, Switzerland and will get the opportunity to work out of our office in Redwood City (California, USA) for a few months. As part of the Mission Control team, you will share operational duties with your fellow engineers.

Your qualifications:

We expect you to bring the following skills to grow and succeed in this position:  

Minimum qualifications:

  • ETH, university, or FH degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or similar educational level
  • Proven leadership track record in a related technical field (minimum 3 years).
  • Fluent in both German and English.
  • Practical knowledge of industry standard configuration management and monitoring concepts and frameworks.
  • Experience in one or more of Perl, Python, Go or C++.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in designing and developing large-scale distributed systems.
  • Experience in working in a small agile development team (Scrum).
  • Practical experience in DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering.
  • Practical working knowledge of InfluxDB, Grafana, Apache Kafka, Apache Artemis, Git, nginx, ELK stack, Docker, Kubernetes, etc.
  • Understanding of networking in general and of the main internet protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP, TLS, SMTP, DNS).
  • Knowledge of network security concepts and best practices.
